The Monastery was destroyed during the conquest of Epirus by the Turks in 1430, was renovated in 1680 and burned to the ground by the Germans in 1943. The artificial lake of Aoos was created after the construction of a dam on the Aoos River and reveals now a realm of pure natural beauty. Located at an altitude of 1,350 m, ranks it as the largest mountainous lake in Greece covering an area of 11,5 square km. The enchanting Zorica Lake, known as “Waterlily Lake”, is a pure nature’s gem in the heart of eastern Zagori.
