There is much mystery surrounding the history of WuMei. There's even disagreement over her name. Much of the mystery is attributed to the lack of written records written about her. WuMei 伍枚 (Ng-Mui in Cantonese), is a legendary nun from the Shaolin Temple, has always been an elusive figure that played a significant role in Southern Shaolin martial arts. According to Chee Kim Thong’s oral history, as related by grandmaster Chee Kim Thong himself, he learned WuMei from a master by the name of Yang Yu (Yeung Yoke - Cantonese) in Putian, Fujian. By this time, GM Chee was in his mid to late teens and had already been taught the WuZu (5 Ancestors) system. GM Chee came to Malaysia and taught WuMei to his first disciple, GM Yap Cheng Hai, which was subsequently passed on to Master Yap Boh Heong (in the 70s). Master Yap Boh Heong has been practicing WuMei forms diligently but without fully understanding them in the beginning. However, sometime in 2006, a spark of realization ignited that deepened his understanding. That discovery and self-learning continues until the present.
