Day 1: North Fork Big Pine Lakes Trailhead - First, second and third lake - Sam Mack Meadow Day 2: Sam Mack Meadow - Sam Mack Lake - Base of Mt Winchell - Palisade Glacier - Sam Mack Meadow Day 3: Sam Mack Meadow - North Fork Big Pine Lakes Trailhead My initial intention was to ascend Mt. Winchell, which is why we carried helmets and ice axes. However, when we reached the frozen lake just below Mt. Winchell, I came to the realization that there wasn't sufficient time to return to our camp before nightfall. As a result, I opted to explore the surrounding area instead of pursuing the climb up Mt. Winchell. The helmets and ice axes turned out to be unnecessary for the alternative route I took. I came across one of my favorite hiking Youtubers, ‪@matthewparker7515‬ on the trail.
