2024 Spring Graduate Profile -- Maj. Hannah Crawford, U.S. Marine Corps

Among the 300-plus NPS students graduating this Friday is U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Hannah Crawford, receiving her master’s degree in Operations Research as well as a graduate certificate in Data Science. She has also been honored with the CNO Award for Excellence in Operations Research. For her thesis research, Crawford developed an innovative model focused on predicting the likelihood of maritime events of interest through the application of non-parametric statistics and supervised machine learning. Said Crawford, “My research aims to provide commanders with a decision aid that provides a probability and a confidence level of a maritime event of interest so that commanders have a good idea of what the likelihood of that event is, as well as the timing of that event, so that it can allow them to inform decisions and make the judgments that they're required to make.” Crawford’s next assignment will be in the Programs and Resources Department at Headquarters, Marine Corps in Washington, D.C. Join Crawford and her fellow graduates in celebrating the completion of their NPS studies during the Spring Quarter graduation ceremony on Friday, June 21 at 10 a.m. Pacific (1 p.m. Eastern). The commander of Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR), Vice Adm.
