THWAKE DAM CONTROVERSY: Fate of dam unknown with contractor facing auction

The construction of the multibillion-shilling Thwake Dam in the Eastern region of Kenya faces uncertainty after the main contractor was slapped with an auction suit last month. China Gezhouba Group Company is faced with auction of its assets and property over non-payment of a disputed debt owed to a local construction company it subcontracted to execute part of the mega project.  China Gezhouba Group Company Ltd has been ordered to pay JTG Enterprises Ltd. 682.76 million shillings for breach of a sub-contract entered in July 2019. The Chinese firm has however challenged the court ruling. At the same time, construction works on the dam have been scaled down owing to financial woes. Nimrod Taabu toured the dam and filed this report.
