Port Chester is a village in southern Westchester County, New York, on the shores of Long Island Sound. It is separated from Fairfield County, Connecticut to the east by the Byram River. The area, home to native Americans for thousands of years, was settled by English colonists in the early 1600's. Known locally by the early inhabitants as "The Sawpits" due to the log cutting process, the village was officially incorporated under the name Port Chester on May 14, 1868.
