Jamaican reggae musician Winston Hubert McIntosh, professionally known as Peter Tosh, was born on October 19, 1944 in the rural parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica. He sought refuge from the rigours of poverty in pop music, notably the R&B and du-wop beamed to the Caribbean by American radio stations. Having cultivated his guitar skills and his expressive baritone vocals, he began playing with fellow Trench Town youths Robert Nesta Marley, better known as Bob and Neville O’Riley Livingstone, better known as Bunny, in the early ‘60s.
