June 5, 1990 - While it's generally understood that Game 6 of the 1988 Finals, aka The Ankle Game, stands alone as Isiah Thomas' finest NBA Finals performance (43 points, 8 assists, 6 steals despite sustaining a severe ankle sprain midway through the third quarter), his next-best performance may have come in the 1990 Finals opener against the Portland Trail Blazers. Thomas ripped off 16 points in the fourth quarter alone, including a two-minute barrage in which he cashed in the game-tying and go-ahead baskets (with a back-breaking pull-up three for good measure). Zeke finished with 33 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in all, pushing the Pistons to a 105-99 Game 1 win. Thomas went on to run away with Finals MVP honors, averaging 27.6 points (68.8 percent shooting from deep), 5.2 rebounds, and 7 assists in leading the Detroit Pistons to their second consecutive NBA championship.
