I was prompted to do this after seeing someone who had damaged a guitar fretboard that was already slotted and glued onto the neck. Here's a couple of techniques which can rescue this. For dents you can try steaming out a dent as long as it hasn't broken or cut the wood fibres, and then you may need to fill the remaining damage with superglue and sanding in some wood dust. It takes a bit of time as both parts of the technique may need to be repeated several times, but as a way of rescuing a project that already has a lot of work invested in it, it's worth a go.
