Tropical hardwood are plentiful in Papua New Guinea. Because of the value of the timber foreign logging companies often conduct short-term logging operations in the forests. Due to the isolation of villages in Papua New Guinea regulating these illegal extractions is near non-existent. In addition, the abduction of Papua New Guniea's natural resources are facilitated by band-aid land laws and the severely outdated lease-leaseback system.
