How To Measure Fetal Cisterna Magna On Ultrasound | Fetal Brain Anomaly Scan | Obstetric USG - Positioning for the Transverse Plane: First, obtain a transverse view of the fetal head. This is typically done by positioning the ultrasound probe on the mother's abdomen to view the head in a cross-sectional (axial) plane. The aim is to get a symmetrical view of the fetal head where both the cerebellum and the cisterna magna are visible. - Identifying Key Structures: In this view, you will see the cerebellum at the back of the brain. The cisterna magna is the fluid-filled space located just behind the cerebellum. - Measurement: Place the calipers at the inner borders of the cisterna magna. Measure the distance from the outer edge of the cerebellum to the inner border of the skull, directly behind the cerebellum. - Interpreting the Measurements: The normal size of the cisterna magna is generally considered to be between 2mm and 10mm. Measurements outside this range might indicate potential abnormalities, but it's important to consider this in the context of other ultrasound findings and clinical information.
