Want to know how to go Cockling at Goolwa Beach & what is the Kuti Shack Restaurant? We went cockling at Goolwa Beach with Derek and Steve who are involved in commercial cockling. Derek and Steve show us how go cockling for Kuti (Cockle or Pipi) on Goolwa Beach using a cockling net. The trick is the 'Cockle Shuffle' which is to use your feet to loosen the cockles and catch them in the net when the water recedes. Minimum cockle size is 3.5cm. In the video Derek also shares the Ngarrindjeri People's cultural connection to Goolwa Beach and the cultural significance of cockling. We also visited the Kuti Shack which is nestled amongst the sand hills of Goolwa Beach. Kuti Shack is the result of Goolwa Pipi Co and Kuti Co partners sitting down with a couple of mates, who just happen to be really good at cooking, and deciding to go into business together. The Kuti Shack features local fish and many of the Fleurieu’s finest ingredients, including the Kuti (Cockle or Pipi). Pipi is the Eastern States name for cockles and the Ngarrindjeri peoples call cockles KUTI.
