Differences Between Taylor 812CE 12-Fret Deluxe Electro Acoustic - V-Class vs X-Bracing

Sam compares two different versions of the amazing Taylor 812CE 12-Fret DLX, one with Taylor innovative V-Class bracing, and the other with their more conventional Advanced Performance X-Bracing. The Taylor 812CE deluxe 12 fret is a Grand Concert style guitar, so it features a slightly smaller body than a standard dreadnought or Grand Symphony acoustic. Being a 12 fret model, this means that the neck joins the body at the 12th fret, as opposed to the 14 fret like on most acoustics. It also has a shorter scale length of 24 and 7 8th inches, so overall, the guitar feels a little more compact and incredibly comfortable and easy to play. In terms of tonewoods, the all solid construction 812CE deluxe 12-Fret features the classic combination of a solid sitka spruce top with Indian Rosewood back and sides, so despite it’s smaller body size, it delivers a pretty meaty and punchy, yet warm and dynamic tone, thanks in part to the bridge is positioned a little further back on the body when compared to a traditional 14th fret acoustic, which helps to generate a bolder response from the top. This guitar is currently available in either Taylors more conventional Advanced Performance X-bracing model and their more modern V-Class version. Each of the bracing systems allowing that top to resonate and vibrate slightly differently giving you two different tonal options, with Taylor saying that the V-Class bracing improves volume, sustain and even intonation. But other than the bracing system, both models are virtually identical. The satin-finished necks are made from tropical Mahogany topped with 18 fret, African Ebony fingerboards, and as you’d expect from a Taylor, they feel really comfortable, smooth and effortless to play. The slotted headstocks are fitted with high quality Taylor tuners, theres a black graphite nut and then down at the bridge, a compensated micarta saddle. So on a whole, the 812CE deluxe offers a really nice blend of traditional and modern design features. Being a cutaway electro model, the body features a traditional venetian cutaway for easy access to the upper frets without sacrificing tone, and it’s fitted with Taylor’s widely acclaimed ES2 expression pickup and pre-amp system, which delivers a really natural sounding, responsive tone when plugged in. To improve comfort when playing, the top features a lovely bevelled arm rest, and there’s some really attractive aesthetic appointments such as mother of pearl fretboard inlays, a beautiful abalone sound hole rosette, and a rosewood pickguard, all giving the guitar a really premium look and feel, and of course, it comes supplied with a high-quality Taylor hard shell case.
