Fender Custom Shop 2019 Collection Roasted Pine Double Esquire • SN: R97522

Wildwoodians, I would shiver the whole night through for a chance to play this glorious Roasted Pine Double Esquire from the Fender Custom Shop's 2019 Collection. It's quite exciting to welcome such a guitar to the Wildwood shelves, because it harkens back to an interesting part of Fender's history. Back in the early fifties, Leo Fender built all of his prototype guitars out of pine before switching to ash for his first production run. Ever since, pine-bodied guitars have been something of a rarity. is a shame, because pine is a truly glorious tonewood (especially in the case of Esquires and Teles). It has a complex, spacious midrange to go with smooth highs and tight, well-mannered low-end. Also, the roasting process imparts some vintage warmth, focus and woodiness to this Double Esquire. Roasted pine is a match made in heaven with single-coils, and it brings out the best in the two hand-wound Custom Shop Blackguard pickups. The attack is woody and percussive, but it always sounds pleasant even when it becomes edgy. Both pickups are hot and warm with an open high end. The neck pickup has broader midrange response with a glassy high-end, while the bridge pickup is punchier and has more sparkle and sizzle in the high end. All of that wonderful Tone Talk would be for naught if it didn't play great, but the Roasted Pine Double Esquire has spectacular handfeel. The 10/56 V-shaped neck profile is comfortable for many play styles, and the medium vintage frets allow you to feel the wood on the fretboard as you play expressively without sacrificing note definition or clarity. Finally, the 7.25"-9.5" compound radius gives you vintage-perfect feel near the first fret before transitioning to a more modern feel by the 12 fret. So, you get the best of both worlds! So, there you have it: the Roasted Pine Double Esquire is a tone machine with excellent feel. Roasted Pine has a timbre unlike any other, so this guitar has a whole 'nother flavor of classic Fender sound. We're excited to showcase such a delightful instrument for our exceptional customers, and we know it will bring some lucky Fender fanatic a lifetime of joy.
