US Navy Special Warfare Combatant Craft (SWCC): The Navy SEALs Best Friend. When SEALs want a fast river insertion/extraction, they call for the SWCC team. The whole world knows about the elite SEALs. But not everyone knows about the people behind the scenes. The ones who take the SEALs to do their mission or picks them up after completing it. The Navy Special Warfare Combatant Craft(SWCC) are one of the ways SEALs can do their job. These specialized boat crews are part of the Special Operations community. SWCC (pronounced "swick") provide dedicated, rapid mobility in shallow water areas called the literal zone where large ships cannot operate. Like their Navy SEAL counterparts, SWCC operators must be physically fit, mentally tough, highly motivated, focused and responsive in high stress situations. SWCC operators conduct high priority missions in support of U.S. national objectives. SWCC operators specialize in small-unit tactics, giving them the ability to conduct military actions that are beyond the capability of conventional military forces. SWCC units often operate in concert with other Special Operations Forces. They are masters of maritime special operations. They use 2 boats primarily to conduct their missions, the Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) and the Special Oparations Craft-Riverine (SOC-R) The Naval Special Warfare RHIB is a high speed, high buoyancy, extreme weather craft with the primary mission of insertion and extraction of Navy SEALs from enemy beaches. The RIB is also used by SWCC operators to conduct boat and ship boarding operations on vessels manned by hostile and potentially hostile crews. The SOC-R is a high speed boat with ample weapons and equipment capacity. This boat has the ability to operate in waterways that are located well inland. The capacity of the boat allows forces to conduct extended operations. SWCC Mission The exclusive mission of SWCC operators is to expertly drive and provide small-caliber gunfire support on specialized high-tech, high-speed, and low-profile Surface Combatant Craft to secretly infiltrate and exfiltrate Navy SEALs on Special Operations missions worldwide. These missions include Direct Action on land, sea, coastline or rivers (such as strikes, captures, and ship take downs by Visit, Board, Search and Seizure), Special Reconnaissance, Coastal Patrol and Interdiction of suspect ships and surface craft, Counterterrorism operations, Riverine Warfare, Deception Operations, Search and Rescue Operations, and Foreign Internal Defense missions (training foreign forces in the tactics, techniques and procedures of maritime and riverine patrols). SWCC may also support military and civilian law enforcement agencies. Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen, or SWCC, drive well-armed, fast boats in support of special operations missions on coasts and rivers including stealthy insertion and extraction of SEALs, clandestine reconnaissance and combat gunfire support. Using a variety of specialized boats and an aerial delivery system, SWCC operators are always ready to fight and support special operations forces anywhere in the world touched by water.
