Fender 59 Bassman amp (45 watts) VS Blues Junior III (15 watts). Not really a fair test but I did it because a lot of people buy the Blues Junior and wonder how it compares to the big older brother 59 Bassman. The recording is a bit wimpy probably because both are recorded with a single condenser mic, but at least they were recorded identically so you can compare. Both set to about 3.5 volume. Treble and Highs on about 7. Mids about 2. The Bassman has no reverb so I turned off the reverb on the Blues Junior, then I added just a dash of reverb to the whole recording. In truth, the amps sound much less similar in real life - the recording brings them closer together. In a room, the 59 Bassman has loads more of both bass and treble and a chime. You can kind of make it out in the recording - that it's a more complex sound. The Bassman even without reverb has a great sound (Leo Fender described how the 4 speakers give you a natural chorus) whereas the Blues Junior sounds pretty flat and boxy until you add some onboard reverb. (PS: The Blues Junior has a Cannabis Rex speaker rather than the stock Jenson. The Bassman has 4 x 10" Jensons) Enjoy.
