Alright ladies and gentlemen, today we're playing a track from a band whom many believe to be the originators of the death metal movement, a "group" who rank among my absolute favourite bands of all time. We're talking about Death, and the Godfather of Death Metal himself Chuck Schuldiner! (I say "group" because let's face it, this was essentially a solo project with a rotating door of members both live and in the studio. That doesn't stop this from being some of the best music around, however.) I'm super excited to be doing this cover, for not only has Crystal Mountain been in my jam rotation for ages, but this Monday coming up I'll be heading down to Toronto to check out Death To All play live! Having never had the chance to witness Chuck in person, it will be an amazing experience to congregate together will fellow enthusiasts in honour of his memory and contributions to the metal scene. Now, getting back to the video quickly, I decided to mess around a bit with composing all the angles on screen at once, kind of illustrate that these are one-pass guitar covers, not a bunch of pieces stitched together. I kinda dig the end result, but will have to work on some of those slide transitions a bit going from near to far shots. I've also tried something new with the backing track, using this cool AI program to separate the guitars from the rest of the song to allow more room in the mix for my recordings on top. There's still a few kinks to the sound after processing the guitars out, but it's more than enough to let me do what I need to.
