This Beautiful Air, "For Ireland I'll Not Tell Her Name" is a tune that was introduced to me when I was in a competitive Pipe Band. Our Pipe Major Kevin Blandford arranged this tune after hearing and falling in love with this beautiful Melody. After Kevin passed away at the age of 40, Martha Hall incorporated this tune into our Medley sets in Kevin's memory. There will always be a part of Kevin with me when I play this beloved tune. The history of the stone Cairn dates back to pre-historic times. The purpose of the Stone Cairns vary throughout the world, but we often times see them on Mountain trails and paths. When I see a stone Cairn I know I am on the right path. This tune I am dedicating to both Kevin Blandford and Martha Hall. Thank you for building the Cairn you have for me as a Bagpiper. I hope to continue building the knowledge and understanding of the Scottish Bagpipe for others and inspiring those that feel the deep call to learn the Highland Bagpipe. "For Ireland I'll Not Tell her Name" is an old Irish love song was oringinally called "Ar Éirinn Ni ‘Neosfainn Ce Hi" and played on the harp. "The melody of this song has travelled far. Clondillon relates hearing a Roumanian folk singer sing the tune believing it to be a Roumanian folksong. Perhaps some soldier of fortune belonging to the Wild Geese [17th century Irish exiles] had the gift of song! " - Mary O'Hara Story behind the tune: The tale of a beautiful maiden who appeared for a short time to a Gaelic poet, resisted his advances and then disappeared forever, leaving him heartbroken. Another version has it that the protagonist falls secretly in love with a maid, although he is too poor to support her and too shy to propose. He goes abroad to seek his fortune, and once made and emboldened he returns home to claim his beloved, only to discover she has married his brother.
