The Killermeters - SX225

The Killermeters, Huddersfield's Premier Mod band. SX225 was the B side of their second single Twisted Wheel released on Gem Records in 1980. The Killermeters formed in 1977 and began as a punk band influenced by Dr Feelgood and, like thousands of others across the country they swapped their clothes, modified their Rock/R'n'B sound and took a lot of speed. The Killer Meters' (as they were known at that stage) main attraction was bass player Vic Szczesnowicz (his punk monitor was Vic Vomit). Their lead/rhythm guitar player was Mick Moore who worshipped Keith Richards however their initial line up did not last long and they split in 1978. The band reformed in the October as the mod band The Killermeters including two more musicians, the brothers Sid & Tony Ruttle, and kicking back into life with a new song that said it all: Back In Business. They were the best and most energetic band in the industrial Yorkshire town of Huddersfield and played all the club and pub venues in the North. During their time they were warned by John Peel that the Mod image would lead them down a blind alley but they were also raved about in Sounds by Gary Bushell, supported Secret Affair and The Undertones and finally went on tour with Eddie & The Hot Rods.
