Huayna Picchu: The Thrilling Hike Above Machu Picchu

You know that huge mountain behind Machu Picchu that you see in literally every picture? Did you know that you could hike to the top of it?! The name of this mountain is Huayna Picchu (also spelled Wayna Picchu) and this hike is infamous for its crazy steep stairs on the edge of the mountain with sheer drop offs – people even refer to this hike as the "stairs of death"! With a reputation like that, you KNOW we had to hike it! So after 4 days hiking the Inca Trail trail to Machu Picchu, we hiked to the top of Huayna Picchu. Frankly, Peter and I agree that we found this hike to be more dangerous and nerve-wracking than the Angel's Landing hike in Zion National Park. I don't have any pictures of the narrow steps on the side of the mountain because I was too busy focusing for my life. 🤣😮‍💨 But luckily we caught it all on video thanks to the GoPro!
