These tests work with any kind of silver(Sterling, pure, etc) The Ice Cube Test: Grab 2 ice cubes and place one touching your silver piece and the other by itself. Silver is one of the best conductors of heat and therefore should melt the ice cube faster. The Bleach Test: Place a drop of bleach on your silver piece. Make sure to wear gloves to avoid any negative reaction with your skin. Silver will be quickly tarnished by bleach and should leave a dark spot after some time. If the piece is unaffected by the bleach then it is more than likely not silver. The Magnet Test: Use a strong magnet such as a rare earth magnet to check your piece to see if its magnetic. If the piece is attracted to the magnet then it will not be silver as silver is not magnetic. Stamps: Look for stamps in your jewelry of Sterling Silver or 925 as these are the most common stamps placed by jewellers to mark their silver pieces.
