Gem mines and market - A visit to the Luc Yên district in Vietnam

Dear all, I'm happy to invite you to discover a new field video on "Field Gemology by Vincent Pardieu". During a field expedition in May 2018 we visited the Luc Yen district in Northern Vietnam to collect samples for the "Bahrain Institute for Pearls & Gemstones (DANAT)". Rubies, sapphires and spinels are mined there for the past 30 years. Nowadays as most of the easy good spots were mined, the activity is mainly small scale and it is happening now often in remote areas within the scenic kharsts mountains in the south of Yen The. But still an interesting gem market is taking place each morning in Yen The. Many thanks to all the people we met in Vietnam during that field expedition for DANAT and a very special thanks to our friends, guides and translators: Geir Atle Gussias and Mai Tran for their welcome and friendship.
