Madlib talks Yesterday’s New Quintet, Sampling and Gear | Red Bull Music Academy

► Subscribe to Red Bull Music Academy: https://win.gs/SubscribeRBMA In his 2002 Red Bull Music Academy lecture, Madlib revealed the secrets of his favourite studio equipment, the story behind his Quasimoto alias, his work as Yesterday’s New Quintet, and more. Since the early ’90s, the reclusive Madlib has been producing music at a relentless pace. Whether he’s working with artists like Freddie Gibbs, MF Doom or Erykah Badu, collaborating with the late J Dilla, or working under one of his own aliases, like the drugged-out party creature Quasimoto, Madlib has carved out his own idiosyncratic corner in the massive hip-hop universe. ► https://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/l... #Madlib #HipHop #RedBullMusicAcademy __________________________ Armed with several identities, the self-acclaimed workaholic MC/DJ/producer Otis Jackson Jr. (AKA Madlib) creates the finest crate-dug beats, self-produced vintage jazz and astrotravelling rap. His father was an accomplished R&B session musician who played with the likes of David Axelrod and H.B. Barnum. His uncle is Jon Faddis, a legendary trumpeter who played with Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, and Bob James. Following in the footsteps of his family, Madlib is in the studio for up to ten hours a day, creating albums that have a unique sound. TOPICS: 6:10 – Quasimoto 11:20 – Yesterday’s New Quintet 27:11 – Samplers & Studio Gear The Red Bull Music Academy is a global music institution committed to fostering creativity in music. We celebrate music, its culture, and the transformative minds behind it. Begun in 1998, the Academy has taken the core principles that underlie its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and city-wide festivals throughout the year. ► Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://win.gs/SubscribeRBMA ► Visit Red Bull TV: http://win.gs/1uy4YFF ► Visit our official website: http://win.gs/avjLrK ► Our latest videos on YouTube: http://bit.ly/12nkX7h ► Like us on Facebook: http://on.fb.me/12N5Ch0 ► Follow us on Instagram: http://bit.ly/2BdQWiH ► Follow us on Twitter: http://bit.ly/Lx4wQy
