New CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles: enabling climate friendly road freight transport

Heavy-duty transportation is the backbone of trade and commerce in Europe: Seventy-three per cent of all freight transported by land in the EU is carried by trucks. Alongside rail freight, trucks deliver goods and merchandise safely across Europe. Efficient and integrated supply chains keep our supermarket shelves stocked. As a result, however, heavy-duty transport is responsible for nearly a third of the EU's road transport CO2 emissions. To tackle this downside and reduce the carbon footprint of trucks and buses, the revision of CO2 emission standards for new heavy-duty vehicles will be of key relevance. It also provides an opportunity to boost renewables and replace fossil fuels. This crucial topic will be at the heart of the discussion at our event which will address the question of how we can make our supply chains greener without compromising their resilience, and what role renewable fuels can play to facilitate climate-friendly road transport. Introductory Remarks: Dr. Monika Griefahn, Speaker of the eFuel Alliance The Political Perspective Jens Gieseke, MEP – EPP ENVI shadow rapporteur for the revision of the CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles The View from Industry Berta Cabello – Director of Renewable Fuels at Repsol Dirk Saile – Head of Brussels office at German Road Haulage Logistics and Disposal Association (BGL) Andrea Gerini – Alternative Fuels Representative at IVECO Moderator Ralf Diemer – Managing Director, eFuel Alliance
