The Australind train | Bunbury to Perth on an ageing diesel | Review

Find out what it's like to travel by train between Bunbury and Perth in Western Australia. The Australind is an ageing, diesel train built in 1987 and increasingly beset by technical problems. The railcars are going to be replaced in 2023 but in the meantime - what's the journey like? Travelling twice daily between the West Australian capital and the state's third biggest city, Bunbury, The Australind features a buffet, comfortable seats and pleasant, green scenery. The service is operated by TransWA narrow gauge ADP/ADQ railcars built by Comeng, Bassendean for Westrail in 1987. The diesel multiple units (DMU) generally operate in a three-car arrangement. The sets were refurbished in 2007 and 2010-11 and have a maximum speed of 120kmh. My train to Bunbury was replaced by a bus because of engineering works but thankfully the return service to Perth was operated by The Australind.
