It is usually the target for all massage therapists, trying to destroy it with elbows, IASTM tools, and whatnot. I am not saying that it doesn’t need a little trigger pointing now and then, but I think that if we are to understand its full anatomy, that would shed a little light on its constant tendency to cause problems. Well, if you watch my video you will realize that it is not its fault really. The muscle has a big responsibility, to be accurate - 9 responsibilities. This means that this muscle is always working in one way or another. Let’s summarise the actions that the traps are involved in: 1️⃣ Upper fibers: 👉 Head extension 👉 Head lateral flexion (to the same side) 👉 Head rotation (to the opposite side) 👉 Shoulder elevation 👉 Scapula upward rotation 2️⃣ Middle fibers 👉 Scapula adduction 👉 Scapula stabilization 3️⃣ Lower fibers 👉 Scapula depression 👉 Scapula upward rotation In the following weeks, I will be posting some more videos on how you can work on these movements individually with some exercise variations.
