Flax and linen farming was one of County Donegal's biggest home industries for centuries. Here we show you how a typical household would have produced linen by hand. The Ulster Scots were instrumental in transforming flax and linen into a major commercial industry. East Donegal (the most northern county of Ireland) was the biggest producer of flax/linen in all of Ireland. Colm Clarke worked in the industry from the age of 12, helping his family to earn a living.
