INTENSE Dog Aggression - A Weekend with Zoey

I trained Zoey during the winter of 2020/2021. She went through a 6 week board & train program where she absolutely excelled, at the time giving her owner off-leash control of her seemingly everywhere. Shortly after completing that program she was attacked by a dog on her owner’s street, which had a nasty ripple effect… She developed intense reactive behavior towards other dogs and people in their neighborhood, which would eventually progress to aggressive outbursts outside of their neighborhood as well. According to her owner, the behavior became more out of control by the day, eventually hitting rock bottom when her leather leash “exploded”, leading to a vicious attack on the neighbors Corgi (the dog across the street in the beginning of this video). To make matters worse, at times she would redirect the aggressive behavior up the leash, towards her owner during the heat of the moment. It’s been a long time coming but last weekend her owner invited us up to New Hampshire to see how much progress we could make on her aggressive behavior towards dogs and people around his home. Maybe even out in public if possible… With relentless effort from everybody involved and some very strategic training we were able to make considerable strides in the right direction during our brief stay. Each time we failed to pass a dog without a blowup, we were able to bounce back quickly… which allowed for the next rep to be a successful one. Reps where her owner was able to look back at me with a smile to say “she hasn’t been able to do that in years.” Our work with Mike and Zoey is far from finished. We’re communicating daily in order to continue facilitating progress until we’re able to work more with them later this summer. Our journeys with our dogs will have many peaks and valleys, sometimes devastating ones. Mike has been able to stay the course in order save the dog he loves.
