What’s Causing Your Wheezing?

What's causing your wheezing? Wheezing is a sound that you often hear in people's lungs. You shouldn't hear it up here but you actually hear it in the lungs, and most of the time you need a stethoscope to hear it. Wheezing is a sound that happens when the airways in the lungs actually get narrowed, so it's the sound of the air going through a narrow pipe, almost like when you kind of pull on a balloon and the balloon makes that squealing sound as you let the air out. That's what wheezing is but in your lungs. And anything that affects your lungs can cause wheezing. So things like smoking, COPD, bronchitis, asthma, allergies, pneumonia, all that can cause wheezing. From my perspective, I mostly see it with allergies. And so for patients who have allergies that also trigger their asthma, we'll treat their allergies and we'll treat their asthma to try to decrease their wheezing.
