Drawing in Early Years to Promote and Construct Conceptual Understanding Debi Keyte Hartland Saturday 17th October 2020 Drawing, in its widest sense can be used as a tool for thinking about the wider and relational concepts of the world. Young children are making-meaning through the things they encounter everyday. Drawing for thinking can be used individually or as groups to make visible their ideas, theories and understanding of ‘big ideas’. It enables them to construct knowledge in meaningful contexts, and to value multiple perspectives to make sense of what they experience. Debi Keyte-Hartland International Artist-Educator and Early Childhood Consultant Debi Keyte-Hartland is an artist-educator, consultant and speaker from the UK, working internationally with schools and educational organisations. She is passionate about creativity, the arts and inquiry in ECE and in how we can curate materials and design environments that invite our naturally curious and investigative children to ‘think with materials’. Debi is a TEDx speaker, lecturer and Director of Sightlines Initiative - The UK Reggio Emilia network.
