Shahrul was born into a family of artists and began playing guitar at a young age. His exceptional skills were evident even as a teenager, as he played lead guitar on some of Ekamatra's most beloved songs, including "Pusara Di Lebuhraya" and "Ekamatra Instrumental." Despite his youth, Shahrul was quickly recognized as one of the best guitarists in Malaysia, alongside other legendary musicians such as Kid Search, Man Kidal, Along Exists, and Joe Wings. In fact, Man Kidal himself praised Shahrul's talent and maturity, despite his young age when he first began playing with Ekamatra.
