The Disappearing River

You'll find the Bollihope Burn near Frosterley in Weardale, Northern England. It runs over Carboniferous limestone and, in particular, over what, when quarried and polished, is known as 'Frosterley Marble'. It's rich in marine fossils which you can see at its natural best in the river below Eel Bridge, not far away from the location where I filmed this (sadly our collie, Jem, is no longer with us). From time to time the river disappears and - as many people have suggested - emerges further downstream.
