Developed in half the time of any previous Halo, ODST fearlessly experimented with new gameplay mechanics while sporting an expertly crafted narrative from Joseph Staten, backed up by a brilliant companion piece, Sadie’s story. Often regarded as having one of the best Halo soundtracks, Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori created a melancholic score that complemented the atmosphere of Halo’s first open-world space: New Mombasa’s city hub. While it’s $60 price tag was initially a tall ask, Halo 3: ODST should be remembered for its impressive world building and entertaining combat loops.
