Box Truck Full of Tires Flips Over on Freeway. Poor truck just wanted to take a little nap on the freeway. This job originally got called in as a big rig, so I dispatched myself in Hulk, my 50ton rotator. I was joined by Ricardo in our heavy wrecker to assist. Upon arrival, I saw it was just a box truck, but fully loaded with tires. These live loads on box trucks, or even trailers, are always tricky because of the integrity of the walls. As you'll see here, the harsh impact and collision with the center divider ripped open the front. I had Ricardo pre-pick the rear of the truck and after seeing how it held, decided to use my new Bailey's Blue 2 foot wide recovery straps to hug the wall. I would have preferred a strap under the front as well, but was not able to due to space and rigging points. To compensate, I used my deck winch with a snatch block to get a low pull on the front axle so everything comes over nice and even. Setup was quick, and in no time we got this truck up and over without any further damage and without having to offload. It might not be a big feat, but CHP is always happy when we work quick and don't have to keep lanes closed longer than needed. Especially because this isn't even our assigned area and we had to come from farther out since no local vendors can handle this job. Ricardo was able to quickly secure it to his underlift and prepped it to tow back to a local Penske shop. What a TIRING job lol. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
