Remember, in order to use this equation, the liquid has to be incompressible and should be in hydrostatic equilibrium (it should be still and have a well-defined surface). The depth, d, is taken from some datum and P0 is the initial pressure applied at that datum! Also! If all of the above are true, then a horizontal line through the body of any liquid in this state should have the same pressure anywhere along this line.
