Great Western Railway, Elizabeth Line and HX Trains at London Paddington on January 20th 2024

My 4th visit to London Paddington Station on the Great Western Main Line Featuring services from Great Western Railway, Elizabeth Line, Heathrow Express Trains plus London Underground's Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines as well. On the day of filming Elizabeth Line services were terminating at London Paddington due to engineering work which meant no services on the core section between Paddington and Abbey Wood. London Paddington being the terminus of the original Great Western Main Line and original Great Western Railway opened on June 4th 1838 and was located to the West side of Bishops Road Todays mainline station built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel dates from it be re-sited on May 29th 1854. There are 15 Platforms in total with Platform 13 being taken out of use in December 2017 to enable Platform 12 to be extended to 8 cars which originally was only able to be long enough for a pair of 3 car Turbos. The station served by Great Western Railway, Elizabeth Line, Heathrow Express as well as London Underground's Bakerloo, Circle, District and Hammersmith & City Lines. Platforms 6 and 7 served are dedicated platforms for Heathrow Express which first began running in May 1997 between London Paddington and a temporary station called Heathrow Airport Junction which only lasted for almost 13 months until June 23rd 1998 when full services was opened to Heathrow Central and Heathrow Terminal 4 respectively. On March 27th 2008 services were extended to Heathrow Terminal 5 however since December 2020 services nowadays provided by Class 387s which replaced the Class 332s The Class 387s had to be modified with the works originally being carried out at Ilford E.M.U.D on the Great Eastern Main Line which included being fitted with ETCS. Elizabeth Line was first formed as TFL Rail back in May 2015 although taking over the metro Shenfield services to and from London Liverpool Street however it wasn't until May 2018 when TFL Rail began operating out of London Paddington which also took over the former Heathrow Connect services to Heathrow Terminal 4. It wasn't until December 2019 when TFL Rail began running to Reading and then Heathrow in July 2020 during the time of the Coronavirus pandemic. It was rebranded as the Elizabeth Line in May 2022 just before the opening of the long delayed Central section between Paddington and Abbey Wood which opened on May 24th 2022 however it wasn't until November 6th when services to and from Reading and Heathrow began running below ground. However due to signal works it wasn't until May 2023 when full service running was finally completed. Pattern of service is Abbey Wood to Reading and Heathrow Terminal 4 via Canary Wharf whilst Shenfield services terminate at Paddington with some extending to Heathrow Terminal 5. Great Western Railway rebranded in September 2016 from First Great Western provide stopping services used by Class 387s to Didcot Parkway, Newbury and since May 2021 beyond to Swindon, Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central The main Intercity services are nowadays provided by Class 800 and Class 802 IETs which entered service in October 2017 and August 2018 respectively before replacing the iconic HSTs on May 18th 2019. The station itself was restored in stages with Span 4 in 2010 with the rest being completed by 2016 with all works carried out by Network Rail. In 2023 London Paddington was named the 2nd busiest station in the UK according to the Office for Rail Regulator Statistics with it only beaten by London Liverpool Street. Whilst eras have come and gone over the decades however the originality of Brunel still even to this day remains totally intact Music used: JJD - Adventure Music provided by NCS Video link: NoCopyrightSounds    • JJD - Adventure | Glitch Hop | NCS - ...   Filmed on Saturday January 20th 2024 on iPhone 14 Pro and edited on iMovie #greatwesternrailway #paddington #gwr #elizabethline #trains #class387 #class345 #class800 #class802 #trainspotting #circleline #londonunderground #hitachi #alstom #londonpaddington #alstom #london
