Video Game Arcade Tours - Gold Rush Arcade (Great Yarmouth, UK)

Mixed feelings about this arcade. It's a cool arcade with lots of video games (both old and new) which is a rarity in itself. They balance it out with redemption, 2p machines and gamblers, so something for everyone! My only gripe is the employees attitude during our visit and snide notes/warnings left by management on certain machines. I was told I couldn't take a picture inside the arcade because 'the manager doesn't like it'. Wake up! It's not 1999! Then I had employees watching me during our whole visit like I had done something wrong. Urgh! We all decided to leave and move on! Gold Rush Arcade Address: 35 Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth NR30 2EN, UK Hours: Opens 10AM Phone: +44 1493 857998 Many of the arcades in the UK (Mainly seaside arcades) are called Amusement Arcades. They are typically packed with redemption-based machines with very few video games (As video games simply do not make money). I have placed the word "Amusements" in the title for these types of places as they are not true Video Game Arcades, but deserve some sort of mention. As gambling is legal in the UK, they tend to include fruit machines (aka slot machines) and various other things money-making games, so video games really take a back seat in places like these. They also really hate filming, I'm not sure why because it's free advertising, unless dodgy things are taking place lol An amusement arcade (often referred to as "video arcade" or simply "arcade") is a venue where people play arcade games such as video games, pinball machines, electro-mechanical games, redemption games, merchandisers (such as claw cranes), or coin-operated billiards or air hockey tables. In some countries, some types of arcades are also legally permitted to provide gambling machines such as slot machines or pachinko machines. Games are usually housed in cabinets. The term used for ancestors of these venues in the beginning of the 20th century was penny arcades.Video games were introduced in amusement arcades in the late 1970s and were most popular during the golden age of arcade video games, the early 1980s. Arcades became popular with children and particularly adolescents, which led parents to be concerned that video game playing might cause them to skip school.
