"The Problem" With The Detroit Lion's Defense: James Houston IV's Journey

James Houston IV is an NFL linebacker/edge rusher for the Detroit Lions. It almost didn't happen. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He attended American Heritage High School, which is a pipeline to college football. After receiving multiple offers from universities around the nation, he chose to attend The University of Florida. In his freshman year with the Florida Gators, he ran into a little bit of trouble. However, he ended up graduating in Education and decided to play a year under Coach Prime at the HBCU Jackson State. There he was moved to defensive end after playing his whole career as an outside linebacker. He was resistant to the change at first, but fully embraced it. After his year at Jackson State he was ready for the NFL draft. He was drafted in the sixth round by the Detroit Lions. He was then cut a month later. He was then added to the practice squad where he was seriously considering quitting football completely. On Thanksgiving Day against the Buffalo Bills, he got the call to play. The rest is history.
