Chula Vista was our second Latin America home-build. Our first was in Guatemala in 1973. Our second was Chula Vista in Mexico in 1999. We started the third (also in Mexico) in 2014 and it has progressed VERY WELL!! This second project was our gorgeous secluded tranquility retreat on the convenient edge of one of the world's most famous "dream places" to live, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Originally from Canada we have lived and worked abroad for 35 years, and now are building once again ... our third project ... a mountain-side family compound just outside of San Miguel. More on that in future videos where we reveal a pictorial view of each step in starting FROM SCRATCH in May 2004 right up to 2022, We are creating our third Latin America "tranquility haven"!! ) The home in this video is located in a beautiful quiet area with larger lots in a 40 year old lovely lake-side residential area away from the complications and noise of the charming "centro historico" but close to all amenities. The home we call Chula Vista has been lovingly built from the ground up as a "large-family ... or ... multi-family ... or ... revenue-generating ... or ... family caregiving ... or ... work-from-abroad" retreat. Our architect is renowned in Mexico as the preeminent builder and restorer of traditional Mexico Hacienda Style homes. The home concept was ... traditional Mexico style garden living with separate spaces for total privacy for all family and visitors ... even if the home is full of happy people!! (Friends and family are welcome, but we all love our privacy too!!!) Features revolve around authentic "hacienda style" Mexican artifacts and architectural details from the past centuries, including ... carved cantera stone accents, hi-relief wood carvings, hand-hammered copper, artisan-installed bovedas (domed ceilings of various designs, authentic cal/natural ground lime powder Indian paint using an 1800's recipe, antique reclaimed mossy roof tiles, stone door-frame surrounds, hand-pressed authentic mosaic floor tile reproductions, and many many more details. This is a 4 bedroom, 5 bathroom 5,000+sq.ft secluded place to live and love!! The 30' tall domed central living room is built to replicate a tiny neighborhood plaza hidden between the exteriors of two different house facades. Gather together in the "placita" for relaxing conversation, then head back to your private section of the home. One important thing we wanted was to provide a private "casita" within the home for aging parents. Live together caring for your aged parents, but with dignified privacy and safety. If there are no caregiving needs yet, this "casita" is a revenue-generating rentable apartment with private and separate access and utility meters. We are fortunate to be able to work abroad with no geography restrictions and love working from the fully equipped domed ceiling upper office with separate entrance from the street to receive colleagues or appointments.
