A term finally coined in 2010, which stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. This is a feeling of tranquility, sedation, and well being triggered by gentle, placid stimuli such as whispers, crackles, crinkles, tapping, etc. It begins as a tingling, static-like, goosebump sensation in the scalp, down the back of the neck, and sometimes throughout the body. This is similar to auditory-tactile synesthesia , in which it causes a pleasant form of paresthesia. Not everyone experiences this sedative like sensation , but many can still find relaxation in the triggers.
