INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 6-22-24 3:12 pm LOCATION: Otay Mtn Wilderness Area AREA/CITY: San Diego County DETAILS: An unknown cause of fire broke out on the mountain’s west side. At 4:50 p.m., the fire had burned approximately 100 acres and was 0% contained. Calfire firefighters and aircraft are battling the fire as it climbs the mountain. Five helicopters, two fixed-wing prop planes, and two large jets were brought in. The Jets are from Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. They have been dumping fire retardant along the west side of the fire to stop it from possibly heading toward the State Prison and County jails. The terrain is rough, with steep uphills and deep canyons. No injuries have been reported at this time. There are several endangered species of plants and animals in the wilderness area. UPDATE: The fire burned 138 acres.
