Chordplay - The Classical Side of Randy Rhoads

Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Classical Side of Randy Rhoads. Randy Rhoads is a guitar legend of incredible influence and respect from musicians of all musical styles and background, as his electric guitar work has inspired countless rock, hard rock, and metal guitarists since his debut hitting the scene with groups such as Quiet Riot and Ozzy Osbourne, but he's also influenced a legion of musicians and guitarists to make the leap toward studying classical guitar and classical music overall. This lesson takes a look at a number of famous classically-influenced guitar moments from Randy during his days playing with Ozzy, and while I have featured Randy in an episode of Chordplay and Three-For-All on this channel last year, I wanted to dive a little deeper into his musical style and secrets to reveal some new ideas and ways that you can begin tapping into his classical guitar style, sound, and overall approach. This lesson focuses on four famous songs featuring Randy's classical guitar influence, including 'Goodbye To Romance,' 'Revelation (Mother Earth), 'Dee,' and 'Diary of a Madman.' During this lesson I reveal some of the secrets hiding behind the scenes in this music, as Randy clearly borrowed a few ideas from classical music masters such as J.S. Bach and Leo Brouwer (to name a few). I hope this lesson triggers a newfound interest in classical guitar music for viewers, in addition to adding some additional ideas and approaches for those out there that have already started studying classical guitar. While it's a challenging and humbling style of music to tackle, it will definitely raise your skill level, awareness, and musicality from working with this demanding and historic style of music.
