This 2010 Whirlpool Direct Drive is the last of its breed, and this one has a very primitive form of auto load sensing. It seems to be more generous with the water than the newer VMW machines. This machine did need a good amount of work when I got it. I had to replace the basket drive tube and the drive block. This seems to be a common issue with these super capacity plus machines as Kirk Rivas had one and it had the same issue this one did. When the tub brake came on, the basket drive would stop and the tub would continue to rotate on the tube. I don't think the Direct Drive platform was made with these large tubs in mind. This one is a 4.0 Cu tub according to Whirlpool. Stopping a large tub and a heavy load would put stress on the little ears on the basket drive tube where the drive block would sit and overtime they would bend and wear away. Being 14 years old now, it did last a good while.
