Chance music is a subset of Stochastic Music. The difference is very subtle, hard to explain but easy to hear. With chance music, everything is left to chance so it can be very abstract or chaotic. A good example is the Krell Patch. We'll often need extra measures to control the disorder or learn to appreciate abstract art. With stochastic music, we'll use chance to set- and modulate musically relevant parameters. So here, chance serves a musical purpose. There's a relatively small number of modules that are labelled as 'stochastic' on the panel. I'll use Melodicer and the SIG. A clever sequencer like the WestLicht, Vector, Black or Metropolix offers lots of randomization to make a stochastic pattern instead of a 'normal' sequence.
