With over six million acres, Texas is the largest cotton-producing state in the country. Challenges to soil health are similar across all the cotton-producing regions in the state. These include lack of rainfall, high temperatures, excess winds, and low soil organic matter. In this webinar, Texas AgriLife cotton specialists discuss soil health activities in the Texas Panhandle, Southern High Plains, Rolling Plains and South Texas cotton regions. Results from three long-term soil health research projects are also presented. The final hour is a discussion with six Texas soil health producers, who answer questions about their soil health systems, cover crop selection and management, and the reasons why they started on their soil health journeys. Producers include Barry Evans and Mark Howard in the Panhandle, Jeremy Brown in the High Plains, Layne Chapman the Rolling Plains, and Zack Yanta on the southern coast.
