We have had so many questions and suggestions regarding our artesian well that we thought we would GO BACK IN TIME to before our build and share a video dedicated to explaining how we finally fixed the overflow problem that was continually flooding our build site and creating problems! Up until this final fix we had tried a few 'temporary' fixes which in all honesty, didn't do all that much and the overflow absolutely had to be remedied before we could begin building our unconventional off grid earth sheltered house! Note that this is a perfectly acceptable resolution for where we live, but where you live the rules may be different! The house will be covered with about 30" of soil which helps to maintain an internal temperature between 45 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit in winter & summer respectively. This means that in the winter we will only need minimal heat that we plan to provide with a small wood burning stove and we shouldn't need any air conditioning in the summer at all! With inflation right now, the energy efficiency of this house is a HUGE Plus! But, it also means that we have a super tight budget that is getting tighter by the day. For this reason we DIY everything we reasonably can and find creative ways to save money such as repurposing.
