A playthrough of Capcom's 1993 license-based arcade beat 'em up, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Played through as Mess O'Bradovich on the default difficulty level. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is based on a short-lived early 90s cartoon of the same name, which was in turn based on the 80s comic Xenozoic Tales. The storyline in the game parallels that of the comic and show: sometime in the 26th century, after a major cataclysmic event, dinosaurs are again roaming the earth. The Black Marketeers have been hunting them, and as a result the dinosaurs have become increasingly aggressive toward humans - they now are attacking cities, and our motley crew of "heroes" are looking to put a stop to the organization responsible. And so the stage is set for a classic Capcom arcade beat 'em up. With your choice of one of four different character archetypes, you march left-to-right, punching and jump kicking anything that poses a threat to your life bar. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is typical of Capcom's licensed beat 'em ups of the time. That is to say, it is excellent. It follows in the same gameplay mold of Final Fight, Captain Commando, Alien vs. Predator et al, and anyone that is familiar with any of those titles will instantly grasp the mechanics here - you get buttons to punch and kick, and with some skillful handling you get access to a wide variety of attacks. grapples, and special attacks. The system works well - there's a good reason why Capcom stuck to it for so long. The presentation is what really makes Cadillacs and Dinosaurs stand out against so many beat em ups, though. Everything is brimming with color, backgrounds feature tons of little animation flourishes, and there are a number of "scenes" that play out in stages to further the plot and spur you to action, many of which involve rather violent depictions of "dinosaur abuse." The sound is also top notch, with memorable tunes and tonnes of samples, all presented in Q-sound of course. Cadillac and Dinosaurs is really a no-brainer if you're a fan of the genre. It's a well made beat 'em up, and it treats its source material far better than the PC/Sega CD game ever did. Highly recommend! _ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
