Why Socialism Doesn’t Work by David Barton

Why doesn’t socialism work? This is an important question as more and more citizens and elected officials embrace socialistic ideals. In this short video, David Barton, Founder of Wallbuilders, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of America’s heroes, history and religious foundation, explains what socialism is and why socialism doesn’t work. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines socialism as “various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.” Barton breaks this definition down into layman’s terms: “Socialism puts everybody equal, treats everybody the same, regardless of your skill, regardless of how hard you work. You reward the incompetent. You penalize the over-productive.” It is the exact opposite of the free market. In this video, Things You Need to Know: Why Socialism Doesn’t Work, Barton shares an historical example from one of America’s colonies, Jamestown, when leaders tried to introduce socialism. The results were disastrous. Barton goes on to explain why the free market, which came out of the Bible, is so much better and results in a thriving community.
