Sometimes I am called in for some outside help. This time to evaluate the wear on a surface grinder. It turned out to have the normal amount of wear / wear pattern but also a quite bad pitting on these sliding surfaces. Quite possibly the result of the design allowing an amount of grinding dust and grime to mix in with the coolant, but also because of (the usual) general lack of maintenance. Anyway, the new user was eager to get it going and happy for "any improvement". It was more of a "there and then decision to make an effort" and "with whatever means available for me" with short notice. I brought only the most needed equiment but as I had no Kingway or a suitable sled for this machine I knew it would be a little tricky and quite possibly not the "best practise" job.. It was a "stunt project really, starting in the late evening and finishing in the early morning hours.. so the results were the outcome of "what was possible to do in this "space of time", needing some "out of the box thinking" and also cutting some corners.. What can you do.. it was "free of charge" .. haha!
