A "work in progress" the rejuvenation of the Athenium Theatre. This video postcard of pictures and music is intended to give an overview of the present situation (January 2011) from an architectural and restoration perspective. The Athenium is typical of the cinemas designed in the late 1920s by specialist cinema architects Kabberry & Chard. It clearly shows their trademark simplified neo classical style. Over the years the Athenium has been altered many times along with some name changes to the 'Broadway Theatre' and later the 'Jadda Centre'. In the mid 1930s art deco and other decoration was added and years later the original lattice ceiling was covered and the proscenium removed entirely, but the basic form and many features of the original building are still in place.
